President

Dr. Machuca holds a master’s degree and a doctoral degree in Counselor Education from the University of New Orleans. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Qualified Supervisor for Clinical Mental Health and Marriage and Family Therapy interns in the state of Florida. Dr. Machuca completed extramural training in CBT at the Beck Institute in Philadelphia. He is a Certified Cognitive Therapist and a Diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Dr. Machuca is a professor of counseling at Barry University. He is also an Associate Dean in the School of Education, Leadership and Professional Development. In addition to his role as President of the Florida Counseling Association (2022-2023), Dr. Machuca has served as President of the Florida Association of Counselor Education and Supervision (FACES), and as Treasurer of the Florida Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues in Counseling (FALGBTIC). Dr. Machuca’s areas of research, teaching, and clinical interest include CBT, technology in counselor education/counseling and supervision, bilingual counselor education/supervision and counseling, multicultural issues, gender/sexual and affectionally diverse issues, and resilience.
